Definition: Performs all activities necessary for sterile processing of reusable instruments at the Primary Care Clinics. Keeps inventory of all equipment. On an ongoing basis, distributes instruments to multiple departments in the organization maintaining supplies at established levels at all times.

Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or GED, and completion of a State approved program for Medical Assistants.
2. Three months of Sterile Processing experience or equivalent preferred, or mist complete Purdue University HSCI 22000: Principles of Central Service online course within 1 year of hire. Online course will be paid for by NEVHC.
3. Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, and Excel.
4. CA Driver’s License, valid auto insurance and functional motor vehicle.
5. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. Must be able to work independently.
6. Must be able to communicate tactfully and empathetically, with cultural sensitivity; with staff and patients. Fluently bilingual Spanish + English required, with excellent oral and written communication skills demonstrated in both languages.

Reports to: NEVHC Infection Control Coordinator (ICC) - Technical supervision will be by Site Administrator at SFHC for day to day operations.

Responsibilities:

1. Care of Reusable Instruments
 Wears appropriate personnel protective equipment when processing instruments
 Receives used instruments from multiple health centers in a central location.
 In accordance with NEVHC sterile processing policies: performs pre cleaning, soaking, rinsing, lubricating, packaging, labeling and sterilizing of reusable equipment.
 Inspects instruments, and packaging for cleanliness, defects and/or malfunctions. Removes defective instruments from service and notifies supervisor.
 Maintains inventory of all instruments. Logs all instruments received and sent out. Sends sterilized instruments back to multiple sites maintaining supplies at
established levels at all times.
2. Care of Autoclaves
 Ensures that autoclaves used in the clinic(s) are in proper working condition and maintained according to manufacturer's recommendations.
 Performs ongoing maintenance of sterilizers including cleaning, flushing, and biological testing to assure sterilization equipment and instruments are functioning properly.
 Operates equipment in a safe manner at all times.
 Monitors and documents all chemical, mechanical and biological indicators o ensure sterility.
 Documents sterilization cycles and maintenance according to established procedures.
 Troubleshoots to identify machine malfunction or other problems and notifies appropriate supervisor in a timely manner
3. Maintains inventory of all supplies/equipment needed to process instruments and care for autoclaves. Communicates with onsite clinic administrator or designee to submit orders for supplies and any requests for autoclave service that may be required.
4. May require travel to multiple health centers as directed by supervisor to transport instruments.
5. Maybe required to perform computer inventories or reports upon request.
6. Performs other duties and tasks as may be required or assigned.

1. Must be able to lift at least 15 pounds

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Central Supply Supervisor, the Central Services Coordinator supports and supervises the daily activities of the staff, insuring that the established policies and procedure regarding sterilization, issuing, receiving and process of equipment are adhered to. Assumes responsibility for the department in the absence of the Supervisor and maintains all record keeping in regard to processing, sterilization of equipment and instrumentation.

MINIMUM SKILLS / EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION REQUIRED.
Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. 2. Certified Registered Central Services Technician. Certified Instrument Specialist preferred. 3. Previous experience in Central Service (2 years) Experience in general office practices and procedures, purchasing practices, business ethics and prudent buyer concepts. 4. Must have successfully completed a recognized Central Service Technician course and keep Continuing Education Units (CEU) updated and on file. 6. Knowledge of computerized inventory management. 6. Knowledge of Sterilization procedures to include all state regulations, CDC recommendations, and AORN and AAMI standards preferred. 7. Ability to communicate effectively with people served 8. Ability to identify problems or areas of concern, propose viable solutions to Central Services Supervisor and carry them out.
